Driving
productivity
and growth
by
building resilience
to risk.

The practice of law and the business of law present risks - some obvious, others hidden. Risk management or ‘RM’ limits the effects of both expected and unexpected events and promotes continuous improvement in practice efficiency. It is not an end in itself and a balance must be maintained between risk and reward. But taking a ‘wait and see’ approach in today’s complex business climate is ill-advised. It is imperative to embrace risk management as part of your overall business strategy. The upside is that by building resilience to risk, you will drive the firm’s productivity and growth.

Exposure to the costly consequences of the Mask Effect is very real. How risk resilient is your firm? Complete our Resilience2Risk Scorecard™ to help you start your analysis.

If you would like some guidance, we are ready to work with you to focus on those activities that are vital to your business and to identify practical ways to assess and manage the risks related to them. Our services include developing strategy, building awareness, aligning workflows, reviewing/assessing/auditing or developing ‘best practices’ for a number of types of risk typical to the practice of law, including risks related to:

Client Relations (including engagement & non-engagement, intake, conflicts, client service; disengagement)
Professional Responsibility and Professional Liability (including ethics, complaints, insurance and claims, entry/exit of lawyers)
Compliance (including regulatory, privacy, securities, employment practices, money laundering, KYC client identification and verification)
Practice Management (including file management, standards of practice, team practice and current awareness)
Document & Records Control (including document sharing protocols, confidentiality & ethical walls, records retention and destruction)
Reputation Management (including conduct within and outside of the firm, possible sources of notoriety, and internal and external communications)

For those of you looking to approach risk more holistically, we can work with you to develop terms of reference for a General Counsel or other risk management leadership role in your firm.

In addition, we offer presentations and workshops for lawyers and staff to develop a ‘risk resilience’ mindset that will, in turn, empower them with sound decision-making when confronted with new or unexpected issues.
